# Comment calculer l'achat du bois brut

Une des étapes importantes d’un projet est le calcul des matériaux nécessaires à sa réalisation. Le bois se calculant en pied mesure de planche (PMP), il importe donc de savoir effectuer la conversion de vos dimensions en PMP, afin de vous procurer la bonne quantité de bois pour mener à terme votre projet.
1 PMP = 144 pouces cubes ou l’équivalent.
## Formules
PMP = \[épaisseur (po) x largeur (po) x longueur (**pi**)\] ÷ 12 pieds
ou
PMP = \[épaisseur (po) x largeur (po) x longueur (**po**)\] ÷144 pouces
## Procédure avec exemple
1. **Déterminer les dimensions de la surface :**
Exemple 1 : 1 po x 6 po x 8 pi
Comme l’épaisseur est de 1 po, il faudra des planches de 4/4. (4/4 = 1 pouce brut)
Exemple 2 : 2 po x 6 po x 12 pi
Comme l’épaisseur est de 2 po, il faudra des planches de 8/4. (8/4 = 2 pouces brut)
2. **Convertir les dimensions en PMP à l’aide de la formule:**
Exemple 1 : 1 po x 6 po x 8 pi
\[1 po x 6 po x 8 pi\] ÷ 12 pi = 4 PMP
Exemple 2 : 2 po x 6 po x 12 pi
\[2 po x 6 po x 12 pi\] ÷12 pi = 12 PMP
3. **Multiplier le nombre de PMP obtenu par le prix du bois:**
## Guide des épaisseurs du bois
4/4 = 1" brut = 3/4" fini
5/4 = 1 1/4" brut = 1" fini
6/4 = 1 1/2" brut = 1 1/4" fini
8/4 = 2" brut = 1 3/4" fini
10/4 = 2 1/2" brut = 2 1/4" fini
12/4 = 3" brut = 2 3/4" fini
16/4 = 4" brut = 3 3/4" fini
